The Challenge
The Colorado Beer Distributors Association (CBDA) represents the state’s beer distributors, advocating for the Three-Tier System while addressing legislative, regulatory, and public policy matters. Beyond economic contributions like supporting nearly 8,000 jobs and generating $1.5 billion in economic impact, CBDA wanted to give back directly to the industry in a new way. In 2021, CBDA and its Board of Governors set out to establish a charitable foundation that would provide educational scholarships for industry employees and their families. To successfully launch and promote the foundation, CBDA turned to long-time partner, Outside Voice.

The Solution
CBDA enlisted Outside Voice to help bring their vision to life, starting with the launch of the foundation and its initial scholarship program. The effort centered around creating a cohesive brand identity and outreach materials that could rally CBDA members and inspire applications.
Key steps included:
- Logo Design: We developed a new logo for the foundation, ensuring it remained aligned with CBDA’s established brand while symbolizing growth and opportunity.
- Marketing & Communication Materials: We created a suite of downloadable assets for CBDA members to use, promoting the foundation and its scholarship program through their own channels.
- Storytelling Through Video: In 2022, to build on the momentum of the successful launch, we produced a short video aimed at increasing scholarship applicants. We visited a CBDA member distributor to capture interviews with the foundation’s board members and scholarship recipients, highlighting the program’s transformative impact.
The Results
The “Tap Your Potential” campaign successfully established CBDA’s charitable foundation as a cornerstone of their mission, achieving significant milestones:
- Successful Program Launch: The campaign energized CBDA members, resulting in strong initial support for the foundation.
- Increased Scholarship Applications: The video campaign boosted visibility, encouraging more employees and families to apply for scholarships.
- Sustainable Growth: With continued support from CBDA members, the foundation has increased both the number of scholarships awarded and the dollar amounts provided, year after year.
By creating a clear and compelling identity for the foundation and telling the stories of its early success, Outside Voice helped CBDA solidify its reputation as a champion for Colorado’s beer industry, both in policy and community impact.
